Our Story
Safe Dot has a very personal story attached to its origins that demonstrates how one experience can resonate beyond just a moment.
How It All Began
One of our founders, Barbara, was awaiting her children’s arrival from school one afternoon when her normal routine transformed into every parent’s worst nightmare. As she watched other children depart from the bus and make their way to their houses she realized she did not see either of her two daughters anywhere. As the bus drove away and her children were not in sight, she tried to remain calm and go door to door asking neighbors if perhaps her children were there. Encountering a “No” after a “No”, she quickly began to panic. Barbara called the school where she was met with little information. The staff was not able to confirm if her children boarded the correct bus, the wrong bus or if they were picked up by someone in a vehicle. Radio calls were made to other buses and all confirmed her children were not on board. Eventually, after painstakingly searching for what seemed like an eternity, she was able to locate her children. They had boarded the incorrect bus that day and took the bus to their grandmother’s house. They were safe and ultimately that was all that mattered in the immediate moment.
What Can Be Done
As time went on, Barbara began to realize that there were gaps to be filled when it comes to the process of sending our children off to school every morning and in the manner of them coming home from school. This began to formulate an idea that would help to prevent Barbara’s frightening experience from happening to another parent again. With thoughtful planning, Safe Dot was born.
Protecting Our Children
